She requests External Affairs Minister to help her get divorce papers legally
Chandrayangutta: A woman from Chandrayangutta in Old City has appealed to Union minister of external affairs Dr Subrahmanyam Jayashankar to help her get official divorce from her husband, a Somalian national, who had pronounced triple talaq over phone from the US around two months ago.
In a letter, Saba Fatima, a resident of Gazi-e-Millat Colony in Chandrayangutta, requested the Minister of External Affairs to direct the Indian embassy in the US to speak to her husband, Abdi Wali Ahmed, who is presently working as a driver in Boston, USA and settle the divorce issue as soon as possible.
"I request you to kindly interfere in this matter and help me in getting justice. Ask the concerned Embassy to speak to my husband and settle my matter as soon as possible as there is no one to look after me and I cannot remarry without any authentic divorce papers," she wrote in her letter.
According to her, she approached MBT spokesperson Amjedullah Khan and asked him for help. With the help of Amjedullah she approached and wrote a letter to the Minister of External affairs. Saba said she got married to Abdi Wali Ahmed on January 25 in 2015, when he was studying engineering in Hyderabad, while his family lived in Abu Dhabi. The Nikah was performed by a Qazi as per Islamic Laws and registered with Telangana Wakf Board. "A week after the wedding reception, Ahmed left for his parents' place. After that, he used to come to Hyderabad every six months and we used to stay in a rented house in Tolichowki and Malakpet areas of Hyderabad," she added.
Last Ahmed visited in February 2020 and went to meet his mother and was there till lockdown ended and later proceeded to Boston in USA. "After reaching Boston also, he was in touch with me and used to send money for my daily needs. Suddenly on October 7, 2020, he called on my father's number and pronounced Talaq three times without any reason," she said.
As repeated efforts to contact them in the last two months failed, she approached the Ministry of External Affairs seeking their help to get justice.
