Hyderabad: Women hit roads as cops deny nod for protests

Mallepally: The denial of permission by police, even after High Court intervention for women's sit-in protest against CAA-NPR-NRC at Indira Park not only raised eyebrows but sparked fresh flash-protest on Saturday night at Mallepally area this time. This prompted police to take about 35 of women and youth into custody, who were also booked under different sections before they were released on Sunday morning hours.

Even as preparations were afoot for dharna at Indira Park, news spread that police once again (4th time) denied permission for the women's protest programme at the 'eleventh hour.' Women activists and several youth decided to hold flash protest at Ryan Hotel at Mallepally. Holding placards and sloganeering, the ranks swelled within minutes. Police soon descended at the site and took women and youth into custody and shifted them to Goshamahal and Habeeb Nagar police stations respectively. The activists Khalida Parveen and Shiba Minai were amongst those who led the protests even this time and were taken into custody.

Earlier speaking to media, Khalida Parveen reminded the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao of his promise, where he said that the government would move a resolution against CAA in the Assembly and get it passed. She wondered if he was against the Act, and questioned why the police were denying permission for peaceful protest by women. "This was fourth time that the police denied permission, hence we were compelled to take up flash protest here. Flash protests shall continue till Hyderabad comes up with its own Shaheen Bagh. She demanded the resignation of Prime Minister and Home Minister for undermining the Constitution of the country," she quipped.

Later during past midnight Advocate Muzaffarullah Khan and JAC convenor, Mohammed Mushtaq Mallik visited the Goshamahal police station for getting release of the women. "Youth arrested by Hyderabad Police were beaten very badly and were not even allowed inside the PS and had to spend entire night outside in cold," alleged MBT leader, Amjedullah Khan, while condemning their arrests.

All protesters who were arrested were slapped with cases under Sections 147, 341, 353, 188 r/w 149 Sec 3 of PDPP Act. "All women were kept in a bus outside Goshamahal police station. The were later moved to CCS and released during the morning hours," Shiba informed The Hans India.
