Marking the occasion, Red Cross Society members in association with Bala Sadan and Neo-Helping Hand organisations conducted various programmes like blood donation camps, distribution of lassi packets to passengers at bus stands and sweets to children at orphanage homes in Karimnagar city on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Red Cross Society Karimnagar secretary V Radha Krishna Reddy said that World Red Cross Red Crescent Day is celebrated every year on May 8.

This is the day on which Henry Dunant, founder of International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) and recipient of the first Nobel Peace Prize, was born in 1828.

Reddy said Red Cross Society is always first in conducting blood donation camps to patients, who are suffering from deadliest disease Thalassemia along with other social service activities to serve the people, who are in need.

Blood donation is the best gift a person can give to his fellow human beings, who are suffering with Thalassemia and other diseases.

Healthy people should come forward to donate blood that could save lives of several people, he advised.

Karimnagar Red Cross Society chairman P Keshava Reddy, treasurer Srihari Reddy, members Kola Anand Reddy, Boda Sudhakar, MLN Reddy and Krishna Murthy were present along with others.
