Youngster slits girl's throat, later attempts suicide

Hyderabad: In a ghastly incident, a youngster slit a girl's throat and later attempted suicide at a lodge under Chaitanyapuri Police station limits on Tuesday morning.

According to police, they have been identified as Venkatesh (22), native of Nellore in Andhra Pradesh, and Manaswini (22), resident of Badangpet. On Tuesday morning they checked into the lodge at 10 am.

Allegedly over an argument, an enraged Venkatesh attacked the girl and slit her throat. Later, he attempted suicide by injuring himself.

The lodge staff noticed the incident and informed the police. The police rushed to the spot and shifted Manaswini to a private hospital and shifted Venkatesh to Osmania General Hospital.

Police suspect that the couple were lovers and the ordeal took place over an argument.

Meanwhile, the doctors said the condition of the couple is critical. The girl sustained serious cut injuries on her throat, neck and fingers due to which she lost a lot of blood.

Doctors performed several surgeries on her and opined that she will be put on ventilator for two days for observation.

Venkatesh was also undergoing treatment in Osmania General Hospital and is said to be in critical condition with severe bleeding injuries.
