All stations to get LED lamps: DRM

Vijayawada: Development of infrastructure facilities and providing basic amenities to train passengers are the top priorities of Vijayawada division, said R Dhananjayulu, South Central Railway, Divisional Railway Manager here on Friday.

Addressing media conference at the DRM office conference hall, he said the Vijayawada division is developing infrastructure facilities like constructing more platforms, foot-over-bridges, platform roof covers from one end to other end and providing amenities like rest rooms, Wifi facility, lifts and escalators in the railway stations.

Dhananjayulu said LED lamps will be arranged in all railway stations in the division and 600 energy efficient fans were installed in the stations and offices.He added washable aprons will be built in all railway stations to maintain hygiene and platforms roofs will be covered from one and to other end so that the passengers get protection from sun and rains.

He said Vijayawada-Eluru signaling system was modernised and more waiting rooms were constructed in the railway stations of the division.Referring to Vijayawada railway station, the DRM said platform number 10 will be developed on par with platform No 1 and steel chairs and other amenities will be provided on the platform for the convenience of passengers.

He said the year 2018-19 is a historic year for Vijayawada as the division first time crossed over Rs 5,000 crore revenue.The DRM said the Vijayawada Division achieved Rs 5,137 crore for financial year 2018-19 with 38 per cent more income than the previous year income of Rs 3,720 crore for the year 2017-18.

Total number of originating passengers in the year 2018-19 were 9.15 crore in Vijayawada division.

The division has recorded passenger earnings of Rs 1,042.23 crore, which is 9.35 percent more than corresponding year figure of Rs 953.08 crore. Additional DRM (infrastructure) MVS Rama Raju, ADM (operations) G Sumana and other officials were present.
