All steps should be taken to prevent accidents: Collector

Ongole: The Prakasam District Collector Dr Pola Bhaskara ordered the police and transport officials to take all necessary measeres to prevent the road accidents in the district, in the meeting held in the collectorate on Wednesday.

The collector opined that awareness programmes on road safety and traffic rules should be conducted with main focus on youth. He ordered the deputy transport commissioner to implement guidelines perfectly to suspend the driving licenses also.

He advised the officials to organise road safety and traffic rules awareness programmes to all license holders and see the rest areas identified along the national highways are utilised by the drivers. The collector ordered the police and RTO officials to see no one stops a vehicle at unapproved places on the national highways.

He ordered them to identify the black spots where accidents are happening and geometrically improve them. He asked the RTO officials to keep rescue machinery always ready for use in case of accidents and to see proper lighting and signboards available on national highways.

The collector conducted a review meet of the regulatory activities in the transport department and ordered them to conduct awareness programmes for various drivers to reduce road accidents in the district.

The collector Bhaskara, SP Siddharth Kaushal inaugurated the 'Wear Helmet- Save Lives' poster after the meeting. The DTC Subbarao, MVI Gopi Naik, OMC Commissioner K Sakunthala, NH 16 technical manager Vidyavani, and other officials also participated in the meeting.
