Amaravati: Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy instructed the officials to clear all housing dues to the poor left over by the previous government and said that the house site patta distribution programme would go ahead as scheduled on July 8 coinciding with YS Rajasekhar Reddy's birth anniversary.

The Chief Minister told the officials to clear the dues of the previous government to a tune of Rs 1,323 crore towards 3,38,144 houses. The decision was taken during a review meeting on housing held here on Tuesday.

The previous government asked the poor people to go ahead with the construction of houses and the amount will be reimbursed but had failed to fulfil its promise, said officials.

The Chief Minister told the officials that the due amount should be cleared and the housing scheme should be taken in a large scale to benefit the poorer sections.

While the house site pattas will be distributed on July 8 as scheduled, in the first phase, over 15 lakh houses would be taken up for construction in Vizag, Kurnool and Nellore districts. The Chief Minister asked the officials to increase the number of houses and maintain quality in construction.

He also talked about the design of houses and reiterated that the standards should be maintained at any cost. The houses would have a living room, kitchen, bedroom, toilet and a veranda. He insisted that the poor should not bear any financial burden for getting their house. "Our mega housing programme should be transparent and of high quality and standards. Other infrastructure should also be taken into account in the colonies that will emerge with the building of houses," he said.

On July 8, the house site distribution will take place and the registration papers, in the name of woman of the household, should be ready by that date, he said. Minister for housing Ch Sri Ranganadha Raju, principal secretary Ajay Jain and other officials were present at the meeting.
