Amazon to sell Apco products
Amaravati: Minister for IT and Industries Mekapati Goutham Reddy announced that Andhra Pradesh State Handloom Weavers Cooperative Society (Apco) and e-commerce major Amazon signed an agreement under which Amazon will promote and sell handloom products from Apco.
Talking to media here on Tuesday, the Minister said that Apco will benefit immensely from this agreement by creating an international market for its handloom products. "Before the implementation of GST, the tax was collected from buyers, but now the tax is collected from sellers. It means that whatever the GST we get for Apco will be reimbursed to the government of Andhra Pradesh," he said.
"One biggest advantage is, the product will be sent only after completing the payment. Previously the seller used to sell products on credit,' he added. As many as 104 types of handloom products will be marketed by Amazon. Moreover, the products will be available all the time worldwide and are guaranteed as they are certified by Apco and recognised by the state government.
The major benefits of this agreement are that the Apco will be charged with one of the lowest commission in the e-commerce space. The commission will be restricted to 8 per cent on the sale of Apco products. Whereas other products in the Amazon collect 15 per cent.
Saris, towels, lungis, dhotis, chunnies/dupattas, dress materials, bedsheets, napkins are among the Apco products that have been listed on Amazon.
