Andhra Pradesh: Liquor smuggling from Telangana State continues unabated
Vijayawada: Krishna district police are keeping strict vigil at the check-posts and the border areas with Telangana to prevent smuggling of liquor from Telangana State into Andhra Pradesh. During the last five days, the police have seized 2,954 liquor bottles and arrested 199 persons.
They have booked cases under the Excise and Prohibition Act. Krishna District SP M Ravindranath Babu has formed special enforcement teams to check the smuggling of liquor and sand in the district.
In spite of increasing vigil, the smuggling is continuing unabated for the past few days. It may be noted the liquor price is less in Telangana compared to Andhra Pradesh. So, many liquor traders of Krishna district are trying to get liquor from Telangana State at lesser price and to sell at excess price in the district.
The traders are using two-wheelers and cars to transport the liquor from Telangana. Most of them are crossing the borders in the rural areas and returning to their villages in various parts of Krishna district particularly Western Krishna. So far, the police have noticed that the traders were travelling with liquor bottles in the mandals of Chandarlapadu, Tiruvuru, Gampalagudem, Mylavaram, A konduru, Jaggaiahpet and Nandigama. The police seized 67 vehicles from the smugglers.
SP Ravindranath Babu inspected a check-post in Veerulapadu mandal and also inspected the implementation of lockdown. Later, he visited the police station. He secured details with the local police on the implementation of lock down and made some suggestions.
