AP CS Nilam Sawhney writes to AP State Election Commissioner to revoke the postponement decision of local body elections and continue them as per the already announced schedule.

 AP CS Nilam Sawhney writes to AP State Election Commissioner to revoke the postponement decision of local body elections and continue them as per the already announced schedule.

She wrote the letter on Sunday. She explained that, at present, the situation of COVID19 is under control in the State and will not have any negative impact for the next four weeks. After that only the situation would be serious and hence the elections could be conducted now itself instead of waiting for the next six weeks.

She said that the elected representatives in the local body elections would help the government in effectively taking necessary action on the control of COVID19. Earlier, on Sunday, state election commissioner Ramesh Kumar has announced the postponement of the election citing corona impact on the state. However, this didn't go well with Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy who levelled serious allegations on the commissioner.

The latest letter from Nilam Sawhney has come to a surprise and it remains to be seen how state election commission would respond to this.
