AP Disha Act to be invoked

Guntur: AP Mahila Commission Chairperson Vasireddy Padma on Saturday visited GGH in Guntur city and inquired about the health condition of a minor girl who was raped in Guntur city on Friday. She consoled the parents of the and promised assistance on behalf of the government.

The GGH Superintendent, Dr S Babu Lal, explained the medical treatment being given to the girl.

Later, speaking to the media at GGH, Padma termed the incident as most unfortunate and said that the government would take stern action against the accused, named Lakshma Reddy. She recalled that the Assembly had already passed Disha Bill to punish the accused in rape cases within 21-days.

She said that the Mahila Commission had already issued instructions to the police to take stern action against the accused. She said that the police would invoke Disha Act in the case.

Meanwhile,CPI activists, led party district secretary Jangala Ajay Kumar, staged a sit-in at GGH to mount pressure on the government to do justice to the minor girl's family.

He demanded that the government take stern action against the accused and extend financial hand to the victim's family immediately.

He demanded that the police officials arrest the accused Lakshma Reddy and expressed serious concern over increasing atrocities on women and minors.
