AP to be made illicit liquor-free: P Hari Kumar

Rajamahendravaram: Prohibition and excise enforcement director P Hari Kumar said that the government was very determined to see Andhra Pradesh as illicitly distilled (ID) liquor- free state and devised an action plan to achieve this goal.

Speaking to reporters at excise superintendent's office here on Friday, Hari Kumar said the department had been strengthened to perform this task as the government had allocated Rs 500 crore as well as procuring 16 new vehicles.

The department is conducting awareness camps among the people and also will use the services of village and ward secretaries and volunteers. Cases will be registered under PD Act against the persons who manufacture, transport, sell the ID liquor and also on the persons who supply ingredient to brew it, he explained.

According to Hari Kumar, the department identified 210 areas in 93 mandals in the state where ID liquor is brewed and put an end to the menace. Moreover, all the officials of the department were directed to work with commitment to eradicate illicit liquor completely in the state, he added.
