Art and Craft Expo begins at Maris Stella College

Vijayawada: A two-day state-level 'Art and Craft Exhibition cum Sale' organised by the Department of Social Work of Maris Stella College commenced here on Thursday.

Participating as chief guest, K Mohan Kumar, Joint Collector-2, Krishna district, appreciated the educational structure of the college which imbibes in the students not only the subject but also promotes value based education, humanity, love and affection, care to the needy which are essential to be good citizens and promotes social sensitivity.

Self-discipline, communication skills, competitive spirit along with knowledge helps the students to attain success in every field. The department of Social Work along with the NGOs is promoting civic sense among the students, he added.

Sister Sahaya Mary, Head of the Department, Social Work, explained that the theme of the programme was to bring about 20 NGOs under one umbrella of networking and to provide opportunity to sell the products made by the vulnerable children and women.

These NGOs work for vulnerable people like street children, trafficked children, orphans, children with special needs, youth at risk, women in distress, trafficked women etc.

Dr Sr Jasintha Quadras, college principal, Sister Sleeva Thumaa, correspondent, Dr Saraswathi Raju Iyer of Department of Social Work, Acharya Nagarjuna University, Father M Ratna Kumar, executive director, Navajeevan Bala Bhavan, Br Virgues, director, Montfort Social Institute, Ramesh, Child-Line coordinator, Sister Innyasamma, degree vice-principal, Hanna Anuhya, vice-principal, Anne Evangeline, faculty and others were present on the occasion.
