Call to avail Cyber Mitra services: SP

Eluru: West Godavari Superintendent of Police Navdeep Singh Grewal has called upon the people to avail the services of Cyber Mitra which were aimed at tackling crimes against women and curbing cyber crimes.

He conducted a monthly crime review meeting at the police headquarters conference hall here on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, the SP informed about the Cyber Mitra which uses WhatsApp number 9121211100.

Women in danger can send a message to the number to get prompt help by the police. Women facing harassment, eve-teasing, ragging, stalking can directly take the help by sending a message. This is in addition to already existing services of phone numbers 100, 112 and 181.

He said that 'Cyber Mitra' also deals with cyber crimes which were on the rise. A complaint on the WhatsApp number will directly land at state police headquarters in Mangalagiri and from there it will be diverted to Cyber Cell at district police headquarters in Eluru. The WhatsApp number is available round-the-clock and the details of complainants will be kept secret.

The police have also started Facebook page, AP Police Women Safety Cyber Space which also intended to help women facing trouble. The Superintendent of Police urged women and people facing cyber crimes to lodge their complaint on the WhatsApp number as many people are using smart phones these days.
