Call to prevent child marriages in Rajamahendravaram

Rajamahendravaram: District Collector D Muralidhar Reddy has said that the State government was implementing many schemes for the welfare of girls in the state. It is the duty of the parents and society to protect girls which is the need of the hour.

Participating in YSR Kishori Vikasam programme conducted in connection with International Girls Day at Adikavi Nannaya University (AKNU) here on Friday, he said everyone should condemn child marriages in society and one girl out of three girls in the age of 15 years are getting marriages.

Child marriage is a crime, he said and underlined the need to bring awareness among the people in this regard and the government is also conducting awareness programmes in this regard. The girls can call tollfree numbers such ax 100, 112 and 181, if they face any problem.

Referring to distribution of ration, he said that about 30,000 volunteers were appointed in the district to deliver the goods at the doorstep of the people.

AKNU vice-chancellor Prof P Suresh Varma, registrar Prof S Teki, Rajanagaram MLA Jakkampudi Raja, information department deputy director M Francis, district educational officer S Abraham and others were present.
