City police seize 130 two-wheelers, 16 held

The city Police Commissioner RK Meena and the team with the vehicles seized from the accused in Visakhapatnam on Thursday.

Visakhapatnam: The city police on Thursday arrested a person on the charges of lifting motorbikes and recovered close to 130 two-wheelers from his possession.

Speaking to media here on Thursday, City Police Commissioner R K Meena said the accused V Veerayya Chowdary, a 37-year-old, of Parawada in the district, was targeting parked vehicles and stealing them after unlocking them with duplicate key.

He allegedly lifted two-wheelers at several places in the city. In Gajuwaka alone, he had stolen 47 two-wheelers. Earlier, he allegedly committed similar offence in various parts of the state and 118 cases were registered against him in Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Nalgonda, Medak, Kurnool, Rangareddy and Visakhapatnam since 2002.

Besides motorbikes, Rs 90,000 in cash and some land documents worth Rs 5.01 lakh were recovered from him. The police also arrested over 15 others who helped the accused in his operation. The police investigated the case following a complaint made by a person who lost his vehicle in the city.

The CP appreciated the special team comprising 16 cops, including Inspector of Police, South crime sub-division, P Suryanarayana, Srinivasa Rao and M Avathram, involved in cracking the case.
