Civic chief asks vendors not to use plastic bags
Chittoor: Municipal Commissioner C Obulesh said that it will be possible to make Chittoor city plastic-free with the cooperation of people and the businessmen. In order to put an end permanently for the usage of plastic , it is the need of the hour to use jute and paper bags as an alternative means, he stated.
The Commissioner made surprise raids on several provision shops, vegetable market, fish market , and other commercial establishments where plastic bags and covers are used in a big way. He said that the state government is very particular for eradicating plastic usage.
Speaking to the vendors at the vegetable market, Commissioner reiterated that Chittoor Municipal Corporation will encourage manufacturing of jute and paper bags. ``A number of NGOs have already come forward to take part in the movement.
It is a global need to save the nature from pollution. Plastic is one of the worst material to damage the natural environment. There are many alternatives for plastic goods," he added. The Commissioner has complimented certain vegetable shop owners for avoiding plastic covers.
He appealed to the public of the city to cooperate in this regard and prevent plastic usage in any form. He assured that needful facilities will be provided to the vegetables markets like drainage and toilets.
