CM Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy to take part in Education Day fete today in Vijayawada

Vijayawada: District collector Md Imtiaz on Sunday said the 132rd birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna and the first education minister of India Dr Moulana Abul Kalam Azad will be celebrated at A Convention hall at 10 am on Monday.

Addressing the media on Sunday, the collector said the state government will celebrate Educational Day and Minority Welfare Day on November 11 to mark the birth anniversary of the noted freedom fighter. He said state Governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan, Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, state ministers, officials and representatives of Muslim organisations will attend the event.

He said Abul Kalam Azad rendered his services as the central educational minister for 11 years and strived for to uplift the minority community. In 1992, he was posthumously honored with Bharata Ratna by the Government of India, the collector said.

The Chief Minister will present Abul Kalam Azad educational award to Urdu poet Abdul Kalam Shamira of Kadapa along with a prize money of Rs 1 lakh on the occasion. Four Urdu poets will be presented with lifetime achievement awards on the occasion along with Rs 25,000 cash prize. A total of 301 teachers and students will be handed over awards to mark the occasion on Monday.
