Collector orders officials to boost confidence in farmers

Ongole: The Prakasam district collector Dr Pola Bhaskara ordered the district officials to boost confidence in the farmers on state government, as the Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy is assuring help to save the debt-ridden farmers.

In a meeting held with the district officials on Friday, the collector opined that all suicides of the farmers in the district are due to the loan burden on them. He advised the RDOs, DSPs and agriculture officers to work in coordination and take the message of the government to the farmers who are thinking about ending their life due to their inability to repay the loans.

He ordered them to assure the farmers that it will provide a solution to any issue and keep them motivated.He said that there are about 152 farmers committed suicide in the last few years as per the police records, but the officials clarified that some of the deaths are due to family disputes, ill health and due to the piled up debt due to digging multiple bore wells.

He asked them to go to all of their houses, conduct inquiries and file a report within a week so that no eligible farmer loses the ex gratia from the government. He said that the government issued compensation will be distributed to the kin of farmers through the local MLAs.

The collector said that it is a farmers friendly government and it tries to save the farmers from their problems. He said that the government will provide insurance facility to the farmers and asked the farmers to never worry for anything. He ordered the officials to conduct an impartial inquiry at the ground level to submit the report.

Joint Collector S Shan Mohan, SP Siddharth Kaushal, DRO V Venkata Subbaiah, Ongole RDO Penchala Kishore, Kandukur RDO KS Ramarao, Markapuram RDO Ramakrishna Reddy, Agriculture JD Srirama Murthy and other officials also participated in the meeting.
