Vijayawada: A rare and complex heart surgery was performed successfully on Joy T Chacko, an American tourist who visited India last week at Capital Hospital. The 59-year-old Indo-American sustained major heart attack (Sustained Inferior wall MI) during flight.

The team of doctors headed by Dr G Varun, surgeon-in-chair, evaluated the patient and found that he developed a rare complication of heart attack, called 'Post Infarct Ventricular Septal Pupture' (Hole between the lower 2 pumping chambers of the heart, means between 2 ventricles). Because of this, heart became weak. Heart pumping capacity came down.

Increased blood pressure in lungs leads to severe breathlessness and went into acute kidney failure.Addressing the media persons on Thursday, Dr Varun expressed his happiness to announce that the patient was getting discharged safely on 6th post-operative day itself. He along with Dr V Bhupal had performed advanced cardiac procedures like complex 'keyhole' surgeries (MICS), valve repairs & complex stenting with international standards in Vijayawada.
