Conduct audit on the number of abortions, Collector directs officials
Visakhapatnam: Collector K Bhaskar directed the officials to conduct an audit on the number of abortions across the district. He informed to the officials to prepare a note on the total number of pregnant women registered and also how many abortions took place.
He directed the medical and health officers to conduct an audit on the number of abortions in both government and private hospitals. The hospitals should inform to the medical and health department about the number of abortions took place at their hospitals, he said.
Addressing a review meeting on the implementation of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (prohibition of sex selection) Rules 1996 on Tuesday, Bhaskar directed the officials for a strict vigil in implementation of the rules. The collector also directed the District Medical and Health
Officer to appoint one official per every 20 private ultra scanning centres for periodical inspections. Later, the meeting has given permissions to establish 109 new scanning cetres in the district. DMHO Dr.S Tirupathi Rao, District Additional Sessions Judge S Damodara Rao and Additional Superintendent of Police B Sarath Babu also spoke.
