Sraddha Hospital sealed on Collector's orders

Visakhapatnam: The three-member committee which is investigating the alleged kidney racket at Sraddha Hospital submitted its report to District Collector K Bhaskar on Saturday night who in turn directed the District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) S Tirupathi Rao to sealed the hospital with immediate effect.

It is learnt that the hospital has so far performed more than 60 kidney transplants and of which, 29 were reported as illegal. According to District Collector, the report submitted by the committee members unveils several illegal transplantations undertaken in the hospital. He directed the three-member committee members to investigate transplants performed in private hospitals across the city and submit a comprehensive report in 15 days.

The DMHO along with District Coordinator for Hospital Services Nayak and Superintendent of King George Hospital L Arjuna form a part of the committee. They will further examine the cases of organ transplantations performed in private hospitals across the city in the past five years. This apart, a Special Investigation Team was formed by the Commissioner of Police Mahesh Chandra Laddha to investigate the kidney racket case.
