Create awareness on saving water: L V Subrahmanyam
Guntur: Chief Secretary L V Subrahmanyam said that the Centre has set up Jalashakti Abhiyan Department to work with all other concerned departments to resolve the water problem.
Addressing a meeting held under the aegis of Centre for Environment Concerns on 'Every Drop Counts' here on Saturday, he said that there was need to save the water for industries and farmers and advised the universities to conduct a certificate course on water consumption and precautions to be taken to save water.
He added there was no benchmark for water allocation to various sectors. National Water Mission Director G Ashok Kumar said out of every 100 litres of water, 65 litres going waste besides this agriculture sector was using 85 per cent of water. He stressed on need to save and conserve the water for future generations.
He recalled that water levels in all the rivers were falling in the country and said water levels in tanks and groundwater table depleting fast. To overcome the situation, we have to create awareness on need to save and preserve the water among people, he stated.
