Cyclone Nivar: Chittoor and Nellore on high alert as rains expected in next two days

Cyclone Nivar: The meteorological department has forecasted that the cyclone Nivar will affect Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andhra Pradesh and is expected to cross the coast on Wednesday. It is said that there is a possibility of entering the Chittoor district with the same intensity on that day. It is likely to weaken into a depression as it passes through the district. Chittoor and Nellore districts of AP are expected to receive heavy rains on May 25 and 26. Fishermen were warned not to go hunting as the sea was turbulent. The first alert was issued at Visakhapatnam, Machilipatnam, Krishnapatnam and Nizampatnam.

Winds can reach 100 km to 120 km per hour while crossing the coast between Karaikal in Puducherry and Mamallapuram in Tamil Nadu. According to the meteorological department, Chittoor district is likely to experience a similar intensity. Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, South Coast, Rayalaseema and Telangana districts are likely to receive heavy rainfall. Heavy rains are expected in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday.

The meteorological department has forecasted heavy rains in Nellore, Prakasam and Chittoor districts. The coastal areas of Nellore and Prakasam districts will be prone to severe thundershowers and light to moderate rains in many parts of the southern coast and Rayalaseema on Tuesday. On the other hand, thundershowers will develop at several places along the south coast and in Rayalaseema on Wednesday. Authorities were also alerted with storm warnings. The Disaster Management Department is reviewing the situation from time to time
