East Godavari Collector asks officials to protect child rights
Kakinada: East Godavari Collector D Muralidhar Reddy called upon stakeholder departments for combined efforts in protecting the rights of children. Speaking at a Child Rights Protection Committee meeting held at the Collectorate on Friday, the Collector observed that child marriages were taking place in the district to a large extent and this should be tackled effectively.
The programme was organised by Women and Child Development department and East Godavari Child Protection Committee. The Collector revealed that in total 106 child marriages were averted from January 2019 till the end of June. He observed that special focus should be laid on rural areas to avert this practice.
He stated that in total 50 child labourers and 85 child beggars were identified by district child helpline. He asked the stakeholder departments to identify the blackspots and find solutions on the identified issues.
District Legal Services convener Srinivasa Rao highlighted various measures taken for child rights protection. East Godavari SP Adanan Nayeem Asmi, Joint Collector Lakshmisha and other officials participated.
