Give priority to welfare hostels in mining-hit areas: Collector
Kakinada: East Godavari Collector D Muralidhar Reddy directed the officials to concentrate on social welfare hostels in mining prone areas in the district by utilising the district mineral fund for providing infrastructure facilities.
Reviewing the progress of various works taken up by utilising the District Mineral Fund (DMF) at the Collectorate on Thursday, the Collector said that Rs 31 crore funds available under DMF in the district and 62 works were sanctioned for provision of medical, health and infrastructural facilities in mines affected areas.
Of which 35 works completed and 24 works were at various stages of progress, he said. In this connection, the Collector directed the officials to inspect the works personally and upload the details of progress of these in website.
With regard to improvement of social welfare hostels in the district, he said each district officer of various departments will be entrusted with the responsibility to adopt hostels and major contractors who had taken up departmental works in the district will also be asked to take up infrastructure requirements in the hostels. He also suggested them to ensure provision of drinking water and toilets in the schools and compound walls.
