Visakhapatnam : Jai Bharat National Party (JBNP) president and former CBI Joint Director VV Lakshminarayana appealed to the leaders of different political parties to make efforts to see that Hyderabad is retained as the joint capital of the two Telugu States Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for a few more years.

The Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014 mandated that Hyderabad should be the common capital for both the Telugu states for 10 years. According to the Act, from June 2, 2024, Hyderabad will be the capital city for Telangana alone.

Keeping the AP capital city issue in view, Lakshminarayana appealed to the political parties in AP to raise the issue so that Hyderabad could be the joint capital for an extended period as there is a provision for it under the AP Reorganisation Act.

To this extent, the former joint director of CBI appealed to Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Jana Sena Party chief K Pawan Kalyan and Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee chief YS Sharmila Reddy to focus on the issue.

Meanwhile, as many as 499 workers made a one-time settlement with the management of Adani Gangavaram Port recently. But the workers demanded that justice should be ensured to some other workers who were not able to join the settlement programme.

Raising the issue, a group of Gangavaram Port workers submitted a representation to Lakshminarayana here on Friday. They sought his support in resolving the issue.

Responding to them, Lakshminarayana assured that he would extend cooperation to them.
