Implement PC & PNDT Act strictly, Collector tells private hospitals

Chittoor: District Collector N B Gupta instructed the officials and others to implement PC&PNDT (Pre-conception and Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques ) Act 1994 strictly. He said that Medical and Health officials have received complaints that the Act is being misused by some private hospitals.

With a view to create awareness on the Act, one-day district level capacity building and sensitisation programme was held at DRDA Meeting Hall here on Friday. Representatives from private hospitals, ultra sound scan centres, members of Multi-Member Authority, members of the district level advisory committees and gynaecologists were present.

Addressing the meeting, Collector reiterated that it was the need of the hour to protect girl children from inhuman traditions. ``Prohibition of Sex Selection Act 1994 should strictly be enforced by the private doctors. The registered bodies of ultra sound scan centres are instructed to follow the act seriously.

No body will be spared for violating the Act, he cautioned. He instructed the managements of private hospitals and the ultra sound scan centres to submit their performance report once in a month to the District Medical Authority.

District Legal Cell Authority Secretary Naga Sailaja, Joint Collector 2 V R Chandra Mouli , Additional SP E Supraja, DMHO Dr Ramagiddaiah, DCH Dr. Saralamma and others were present.
