Kakinada: High tide leaves people shudder in panic
Kakinada: Under influence of Nivar cyclone, there have been continuous torrential rains in several parts of East Godavari district.
People remained indoors. High tidal waves of the sea caused panic among the people as they touched Uppada beach road. The scattered boulders and stones strewn on the road. The tidal waves crossed the Geo-tube wall which was constructed as barrier for beach road. The beach road from Subbampet – Nemam has been partially damaged.
The sea is very rough at Nemam – Konapappet coast. In Konapapapet and U Kothapalli mandal, fishermen moved their boats to safer places. The sea water is overflowing on the road at Uppada.
Normal life was thrown out of gear in Peddapuram, Samalkot, Pithapuram, Rajamahendravaram and other areas following heavy rains since midnight of Wednesday. Several low-lying areas like Kakinada, Amalapuram, I Polavaram, Mummidivaram, Kadiyam, Rajamahendravaram Rural outskirts were inundated. Roads were inundated and floodwater entered homes in several areas in Kakinada.
It rained continuously for five to six hours in the Kakinada smart city. Cinema Road, Main Road, Gandhinagar, Jagannackpur, Sambamurthy Nagar, Dairy Darm Centre, RTC Complex, Dummulpet, Yeimoga, Suryaraopet, Vimuthi Nagar and other areas were inundated due to the downpour.
The elderly people became panicky and shivered due to the biting cold waves. All people confined to their houses. Almost all roads are inundated with water due to continuous rain. People in many areas in Kakinada faced a lot of hardship owing to the failure of the power supply.
Resident of GandhinagarAVD Menta Rao said that on Wednesday night at 10 pm the power supply was cut off and the people were subjected to a lot of hardships and untold misery due to the outage. Some areas in Kakinada were in utter darkness.
District Revenue Officer Ch Sathibabu said that Collector D Muralidhar Reddy has given instructions to the officials to close the traffic movement on Kakinada – Uppada beach road. The road adjoining the sea coasts is partially damaged.
Sathibabu stated that a few acres of paddy crop in Amalapuram is damaged. All precautionary measures have been taken prior to the advent of the Nivar cyclone.
