Kakinada: Minister Taneti Vanita assures full support to rape victim's family

Kakinada: Minister for Women Development & Child Welfare Taneti Vanita has strongly condemned the heinous crime of the rape of a five-year-old girl in Kakinada in East Godavari district.

The Minister on Saturday visited the victim at the Government General Hospital (GGH) here along with East Godavari District Collector D Murlidhar Reddy and SP Adnan Nayeem Asmi.

Vanita described the crime committed as an act of a psycho and not that of a normal human being. She assured that the government would stand by the child's family and render justice to them.

She said that as per the directions of Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, she had immediately contacted the victim's family over phone. In view of the critical condition of the child, the Minister directed the medical authorities to provide her better medicare.

Vanita assured that the accused would be sternly punished.. She said the police had formed special squads to nab the culprit. The Minister announced that the government had sanctioned Rs 10 lakh towards a fixed deposit in the name of the girl as per the decision taken by the Chief Minister. This is intended to protect the future of the child. She also handed over a cheque for Rs 25,000 to the parents of the victim.

The Minister pointed out that Disha police stations and fast track courts have been set up in every district. The government has been encouraging women to go to the Disha police station to get justice immediately.
