Kakinada: The 'Smart City' works taken up under the Smart City Corporation, to the tune of Rs 450 crore, are causing a lot of inconvenience to people, particularly the road users and bike riders.

Though the works likely to provide additional amenities to the people of this city, once known as second Chennai, it has become a herculean task to walk or to ride a two-wheeler on the 22 square kilometre city area. The city is also known as educational hub with facilities for medical, engineering, PG education, fashion technology, polytechnic and allayed educational faculties besides a place for medical care with hospitals.

During Smart City Development Committee review meeting held recently, East Godavari District Collector D Muralidhar Reddy noticed the plight of road users and directed the civic authorities to close the potholes and remove the waste left on the roads. But no action has been initiated by the concerned authorities in this regard so far.

Kakinada Municipal Consumers Welfare Association president D Ramona Raju also appealed to the authorities to fill the potholes and clear the bumps soon after completion of particular work. But nothing concrete seems to have emerged in this direction. The road users of Kakinada appeal to municipal authorities to take immediate steps for clearing of the roads and make them motorable for road users.
