Krishna district administration on high alert to tackle flood

Vijayawada: Due to heavy inflows of Krishna river flood waters into Pulichintala reservoir, the District Collector Md Imtiaz on Tuesday instructed the officials to be on high alert and take precautionary measures to prevent any untoward incident. It is expected that six lakh cusecs of water will be released from Pulichintala reservoir at any time.

Collector Imtiaz along with the Joint Collector K Madhavilatha conducted a tele-conference on Tuesday with the officials and discussed about the precautionary measures to be taken in view of the floods.

He asked the officials to shift the flood affected families to the rehabilitation centres and open night shelters if necessary. He said 17 mandals along the Krishna river from Jaggaiahpet to Nagayalanka will be affected due to the floods.

Imtiaz has asked the officials to prevent fishermen from entering to the river as six lakh cusecs of water will be released from Pulichintala reservoir. He said the NDRF teams will be stationed and asked the officials to intimate the district administration if they need help of NDRF teams. Collector asked the Irrigation officials to take measures to strengthen the bunds and prevent breaches along the river.

Prakasam Barrage is getting flood water and 70 gates were lifted on Tuesday. It is expected the flood will continue some more days. After the gap of 10 years, the Prakasam barrage is getting full inflows and visitors are enjoying the scenic beauty of Krishna river and inflows of water.

4 shepherds were rescued at Chandarlapadu Officials have rescued four shepherds who went to the Lanka villages in Chandarlapadu mandal on Tuesday. Nandigama MLA M Jaganmohana Rao held discussions with the revenue, police and irrigation officials and asked them to rescue the trapped persons. The shepherds were brought back to Chandarlapadu village.
