Kurnool: A 5-year-old boy was mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs at Police Lane in Allagadda town on Wednesday. According to Allagadda Sub Inspector N Rama Mohan Reddy, the victim has been identified as Thappeta Narasimha.

The SI said Thappeta Maddilety and Thappeta Indiramma along with their 5-year-old son Thappeta Narasimha were staying in a rented house in Allagadda town.

Maddilety, who is an accused in an accident case, was undergoing jail term at Prakasam district jail. The incident took place when the boy's mother Indiramma has gone to see her husband at the jail.

While leaving to Prakasam district, Indiramma asked her neighbours to look after the boy till her return. The neighbours were involved in household work after the boy was made to asleep. Later the boy woke up and went out of the house. This was not noticed by the care takers. When the boy came out of house, nearly 10-15 dogs attacked him, said the SI. In the incident, the child was left with gaping wounds across his head, hands and private parts which left him bleeding profusely.

However, the locals and a head constable on noticing the incident, drove off the dogs. Later the locals informed the care takers while the head constable called 108 ambulance. Unfortunately, it was too late that the boy succumbed to injuries before the arrival of ambulance on the spot. It is also learnt that that boy was mentally retarded. The body was shifted to Allagadda general hospital for autopsy. After completion of autopsy, the body was handed over to the deceased family members, added Rama Mohan Reddy.

A case was filed under section 174 Cr PC based on the complaint lodged by the boy's uncle and also recorded the statement of locals and neighbours.
