Kurnool: Officials embark on green mission to clean up district

Kurnool: District collector G Veera Pandiyan has said that the officials with the cooperation of people should keep the surroundings neat and clean. The collector convened a meeting with the officials concerned on War on Waste (WoW) at Zilla Parishad meeting hall here on Monday.

Addressing the occasion, the collector said that the War on Waste programme would be conducted for two weeks starting from December 7 to 21 across the district. The officials should strive to ensure tidy surroundings at every village, he said and directed the officials to use the services of village secretariat staff and volunteers to clean the villages.

He also asked the officials to focus on small scale industries and retail shops as they generate more waste. Encourage green ambassadors at villages and infuse awareness on how to keep the village surroundings clean. Even the officials should educate people on use of cloth bags instead of plastic covers, said the collector.

The collector further directed the officials to collect feedback on who is implementing the best waste management methods across the district. The officials are ordered to focus on cleanliness at Kurnool, Adoni and other divisions. He said that a reward of Rs 1 lakh would be given to the ideal village.

Panyam constituency MLA Katasani Rambhupal Reddy, joint collector Syed Khaza Mohiuddin, Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Venkatasubbaiah, district level officials, sectorial officials, DLDO, DLPO, mandal level officials and others participated in the meeting.
