Liquor worth 10 cr seized in 18 days

Vijayawada: Prohibition and Excise Commissioner Mukesh Kumar Meena has said that about Rs 10 crore worth liquor was seized in the past 18 days across the state.

The initiation taken up by the prohibition and excise department prior to the election notification is yielding good results for the smooth conduct of the elections.

Addressing the media at secretariat, the commissioner has said that 2.5 lakh litres of illegal liquor, 33,000 litres of ID liquor, NDPL 2,200 litres and 2 lakh litres were seized at the IMFL divisions.

He recalled that during 2014 election, a total of 2.43 lakh litres of liquor was seized worth Rs 9.53 crore between the notification and the election period.

He also said that Rs 13 crore worth liquor was seized during the Telangana Assembly polls by the prohibition and excise department.

He said that all the officials and staff without any pressure and as per the Election Commission (EC) guidelines shown their efficiency at work and created a new milestone at the national-level in seizing illegal liquor in the state.

The coordination of inter-state excise department was giving good results. The task force officers were responding on time with an action plan headed by enforcement director Hari Kumar.

There is good number of complaints from the people to the toll-free number and the complaints were addressed within 48 hours, said the Commissioner.
