Mahatma Phule icon of social reforms: Collector Dr Pola Bhaskara

Ongole: Mahatma Jyotirao Phule was the iconic man in history, who worked for the social reforms in the country, said the District Collector Dr Pola Bhaskara. He paid rich tributes to Mahatma Phule by garlanding his statue at new vegetable market in Ongole observing his 129th death anniversary on Thursday.

The collector opined that Phule was in front to bring social reformations in participating in the freedom fight of India and achieved a place in history by working for the transformation in the lives of the public. He said that Phule led a movement to educate not only poor and downtrodden classes but advocated for the education women and it is his efforts that helped everyone in the country receiving an education without any hassle.

He said that Phule and his wife run the movement of women education and fought against superstitions and in favour of equal rights to all. The BC welfare officer Ch Lakshmidurga, BC corporation executive director K Nagamuni, Ongole RDO Prabhakara Reddy, municipal commissioner Niranjan Reddy and other BC association leaders also participated in the program.
