Vijayawada: Every government need media advisers, said Devulapalli Amar, adviser to the State government for the national media and inter-state affairs while addressing journalists at the Press Club here on Friday.

Speaking at the Atmeeya Sammelanam organised by the Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) here, Amar recalled that since the reign of the late prime minister Indira Gandhi, it has been practiced for every government to appoint media advisers.

"If the media advisers are journalists instead of bureaucrats it would be useful for the government," he averred. Amar said since 1976 he has been the member of APUWJ and been at the forefront to solve the problems of the journalists.

"Journalists are not confined to any region, caste or religion," he said recalling that the statue of M Chalapati Rao belonging to Srikakulam has been established in Hyderabad and honoured on his birthday every year.
