Nellore: District Collector MV Seshagiri Babu asked the officials to check availability of sand stocks at Sangam Reservoir and Swarnamukhi Barrage areas for meeting the demand from the people. He reviewed with the members of the District Level Sand Committee on Tuesday.

Officials from the groundwater department informed that there is no threat for water reserves with sand mining and storage capacity of the reservoirs also increases if silt is removed. They said water resources are plentiful in the areas. Collector directed the officials to take steps for the supply of adequate quantities of sand to needy people.

Collector Seshagiri Babu suggested the storage of sand stocks at Kota, Kondagunta, and Venkatachalam keeping the demand during the rainy season. He said weighing bridges, CC cameras at all reaches; and GPS equipment should be attached to the sand carrying vehicles for tracking. Officials informed to the collector that 30,000 tonnes at Venkatachalam and 1.5 lakh tonnes of stand stocked at Kondagunta.

District SP Bhaskar Bhushan, Joint Collector Dr. V Vinod Kumar, District Panchayat Officer P Dhana Lakshmi and Assistant Director of Mining Narasimha Reddy were present.
