Nellore: Officials make sand stocks ready for supply
Nellore: The district administration is getting ready for the supply of sand if the government approves online sales shortly. A special deputy director has been appointed for monitoring the same. Officials are also collecting the details of sand availability at all reaches and monitoring systems for the supply of sand.
It may be recalled that the state government had recently approved allocation of sand and transportation for government works and other important projects. They are also allowing construction activity in rural areas for supporting the construction labourers under the Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme strictly implementing social distancing measures at the workplace.
Now, door delivery of sand has been started for works being taken up by the government wings and also to the consumers who had booked online before lockdown. For the last 50 days, labourers have been facing a difficult situation with no employment due to lockdown and also ban on construction activity.
Two stock points have exclusively been earmarked at Kondagunta in Kota mandal and another one close to Nellore city for the supply of sand deploying tight monitoring mechanism and the officials are planning to stock around 3 lakh tonnes of sand there. Officials are expecting the state government would shortly permit sand supply to all construction activities even in urban areas.
