No demand for banana, mosambi fruits in Chittoor Rythu Bazaar

Chittoor: Over Rs One lakh worth of banana and mosambi fruits in Chittoor rythu bazaar are set to be thrown into dust bins due to lack of demand, according to official sources. All the fruits are at perishable stage lying in the Chittoor Rythu bazaar in a deplorable state. During the ensuing lockdown period, Joint Collector K Markendeyulu has taken initiative to supply the banana and organge fruits at subsidised prices to the customers through Chittoor rythu bazaar.

To safe guard the interest of the farmers of Krishna district, over 50 MTs of banana loads and 20 MTs of orange fruits from Kadapa district were dumped in Chittoor rythu bazaar a week ago. It was decided to sell mosambi for Rs 20 a kg and Rs 10 a kg to banana. Due to supplying inferior quality of mosambi and banana, it is learnt that consumers are disinterested to purchase the said fruits, it is learnt. Those who purchased the banana and mosambi without ascertaining the quality of fruits are constrained to throw on the roads because of their poor quality.

Speaking to The Hans India here on Monday, Md Akthar, Estate Officer, Chittoor rythu bazaar, admitted that there was no adequate demand for the mosambi and banana stocks due to various reasons."We have been striving to sell both the fruits in which the members of self-help group members were involved. There are number of complaints cropped against the quality of mosambi and banana resulting no demand. However, we are doing our level best to dispose the said fruits," he added.

One Ramanjaneyulu, Krishna, Rupu Chandra Reddy and other consumers who purchased the fruits in Chittoor rythu bazaar complained that they have thrown the fruits on the roads due to poor quality.
