Vijayawada: The members of Students Federation of India (SFI) and Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) demanded that the authorities take stern action on the managements of institutions which are conducting classes on public holidays.

District SFI secretary A Someshwara Rao on Tuesday demanded that the educational department take stern action on the schools and colleges for conducting classes on a public holiday. He said that the State government has declared a holiday on account of Muharram.

However, a few institutions in the city were conducting classes in the name of special classes in spite of receiving the information from the Education Department violating the rules of the government.

A few institutions were forcefully shut down by members of the SFI who were conducting special classes and examinations for securing ranks in competitive examinations, thus putting the students to a lot of stress and strain. SFI district vice-president O Yesubabu, DYFI district secretary Nageswara Rao, Rupesh and others participated in the programme.
