Visakhapatnam: Authorities have taken steps to discharge the victims from hospitals who got injured in toxic gas leakage incident in Visakhapatnam on Thursday. Hundreds of people have been affected by gas leakage from the LG polymers industry recently in RR Venkatapuram village near Visakhapatnam.

All the victims are being treated at Vishakhapatnam KGH. KGH Superintendent Dr Arjuna said that the health of the people is good now and said that it was decided to discharge the patients. All those in the wards of the hospital would be discharged after the necessary medical examination.

While as many as 12 people were killed and hundreds of people were seriously injured in a gas leak incident from LG Polymers early Thursday morning. Animals, cats and dogs, along with humans, were killed by the effects of styrene monomer vapours. During this event, the green trees were also dried up.

On the other hand, distribution of compensation cheques to the families of victims of the LG Polymers gas leak has begun on Monday. On Monday, ministers Kurasala Kannababu, Botsa Satyanarayana and Avanthi Srinivas handed over cheques worth one crore of rupees to each family of the deceased. Cheques were distributed to all eight families. It is however, known that Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has announced a financial assistance of one crore rupee as compensation for each family of the deceased. Within five days of the event, Rs. 1 Crore compensation was distributed to the victims, which is the first time ever in history of the state.
