Officials told to rehabilitate displaced persons in Kakinada

Kakinada: Rehabilitation and Resettlement Commissioner Dr Babu Rao said that relocation of Polavaram Project displaced persons in East Godavari district should be expedited to safeguard the interests of the people in project-affected areas.

He held a review meeting on the progress of Rehabilitation and Repair works in the district along with District Collector D Muralidhar Reddy and other senior officers here on Saturday.

He said that Polavaram Project was a national project and the issues relating to the displaced families should be tackled with care and the works relating to R&R colonies should be taken up and completed done on a priority basis. Otherwise, the displaced persons would face immense hardships, he added.

He directed the officials concerned to prepare an R&R plan for the newly identified six habitations in Devipatnam mandal. District Collector D Muralidhar Reddy said that 65 habitations in the district were affected in Rampachodavaram and Yatapaka agency divisions in the district and displaced persons in 11 habitations were shifted to seven R&R colonies.

Joint Collector G Lakshmisha, ITDA Project Officer A Venkata Ramana, Rampachodavaram Sub-Collector CV Praveen Aditya and others participated.
