Police keen to combat social evils: SP Dr Shemushi Bajpayee
Rajamahendravaram: The Rajamahendravaram urban district superintendent of police Dr Shemushi Bajpayee has said that steps were initiated to combat social evils such as gambling, cricket betting, playing cards, cockfights, clubs, ganja, drugs consuming, illicit liquor, gutka etc.
Speaking to The Hans India here on Sunday, she said Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy and Director General of Police Gowtham Sawang are very much particular in this regard. Necessary directions were issued to all police stations in the urban district limits in this regard.
The police advised the people, mainly to the youth not to get attracted by social evils which hamper their future. During the last six months from January 1st to June 30th in the urban district as many as 367 cases were registered and 783 persons were arrested and collected an amount of Rs 16,21,335 and seized 19 motor bikes, one car and 23 mobile phones from them.
Relating to cockfights as many as 220 cases were registered and 275 punters were nabbed and seized 117 cocks and an amount of Rs 1,78,020. Two cases were registered and 13 persons were arrested for conducting cricket betting and seized an amount of Rs 5,50,440 from them along with 29 mobile phones, one laptop, three key boards, one TV, four chairs, one table, two bikes and ATM cards.
To eradicate gutkha menace in the city, as many as 35 cases were registered and 63 persons were arrested and Rs 44,26,121 worth of gutkha packets were seized and 10 cases registered and 32 persons were nabbed for selling ganja and seized Rs 64.51 lakh worth of 1296.396 kg ganja and seized six cars, three fans, one auto, one bike used for transportation of ganja.

During the last six months, Rs 62,30,243 was recovered as against of 1,98,25,410 stolen in various crimes. The SP appealed to the people to extend their cooperation to the police to discharge their duties effectively.
