Rains render Rs164 crore loss to agriculture sector in Kadapa
Kadapa: Due to cyclone Nivar, the district has suffered Rs 164.63 crore loss to agriculture sector.
According to agriculture department sources, traditional, commercial and horticulture crops in 1.37 lakh acres were completely damaged.
The officials said crop loss was estimated as per scale of relief between Rs 5,000-15,000 per hectare and the farmers will get Rs 2,000-6,000 compensation per acre.
Paddy crop grown in 27,225 hectares in 275 villages was damaged in the district.
Horticulture crops like banana, papaya, sweet lemon and mango in 5,000 hectares were damaged causing Rs 12, crores loss.
Agriculture Joint Director J Murali Krishna said the loss to farm sector was estimated at Rs 154.66 crore. He said detail report on crop loss has been sent to the government.
