Rally held opposing uranium mining in Kurnool

Kurnool: With the demand to save Nallamala forest and preserve ecological balance, the students of KVR Government College took out a huge rally under the banner Rangam Praja Samskrutika Vedika on Thursday.

The rally started from KVR College to collectorate where they staged a protest demanding to stop mining in forest region. The Vedika state president, A Karunakar Babu addressing the meeting on the occasion, demanded the state government to immediately stop uranium mining in Nallamala forest.

``With the mining entire forest area will be engulfed with radiation and that will pose great threat to the forest and perishing of wild animals. Government should find alternate sources rather than uranium mining,'' said Karunakar Babu.

Another leader Shiva Nagi Reddy said, ``We have seen great disadvantages of uranium. This product is widely used in manufacturing atom bombs. The radiation emanates out of uranium mining will prove disastrous to forest, wild animals and even human beings on the earth.''

An environment lover, Maruthi Sharma said that mining of uranium is nothing but a foolish act. He said the government instead encouraging and preserving the forest extent is trying to ruin it.

District president, Jaleel, Srinu, Anand, Pullaiah, Manju, Suresh, Prasad students of KVR and government town model college participated in the program.
