Eluru: The Students Federation of India (SFI) on Tuesday demanded that the state government restrict Amma Vodi scheme to government school children to improve student strength in government schools.

Addressing the media, the SFI state assistant secretary, K Prasanna Kumar alleged that private schools were getting benefitted because of Amma Vodi scheme. He charged YSRCP government running on the same lines of previous TDP regime without caring for welfare of the students.

It did not release scholarship arrears and fee reimbursement dues for two years. The mid-day meal was lifted for Intermediate students. Even for school students, the scheme was handed over to private persons who were serving poor quality of food.

The students have been taking their food from home which itself speaks volumes on the sad state of affairs with mid-day meal. To highlight the problems of the students, the SFI would stage dharna at Collectorate on August 22, he announced.
