Sankurathri founder honoured
Kakinada: Sankurathri Foundation director Dr Chandrasekhar was presented with a Visesha Purasakaram of Ramineni Foundation by Telangana Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao and Ramineni Foundation (USA) chairman Dharma Prabhakar in Hyderabad on Saturday.
Minister Dayakar Rao and BJP Andhra Pradesh state president Kanna Laxminarayana said Dr Chandrashekhar was honored for his services through Sankuratri Foundation. They said that his efforts in elimination of avoidable blindness through Srikiran Institute of Ophthalmology was commendable.
He restored vision to more than 2.7 lakh people among the needy and the poor and eliminated illiteracy through Sarada Vidyalayam. He educated more than 3000 rural poor children.
BJP MP Garikipati Mohan Rao recalled that in Air India Kanishka flight blast by terrorists on 23 June 1985, Dr Chandrasekhar lost his wife Manjari, son Srikiran and daughter Sharada. Later, he came back to India from Canada and started Sankurathri Foundation NGO in 1989 and since then, working for the downtrodden and needy people in the country.
