Speaker T Sitaram urges scientists to bridge gap between research, practice in Srikakulam
Srikakulam: Assembly Speaker T Sitaram here on Tuesday called for bridging the gap between research and practice. Delivering a keynote address at Agriculture Research Station (ARS) at Ragolu, near here, such a step would help achieve better results.
Sitaram lauded efforts by the agriculture scientists in releasing information on different crops. But the information has not been reaching the stakeholders, he said. It remained a drawback. He suggested that the officials visit the fields and work along with farmers.
Such visits by the scientists would help under the problems being faced by farmers and prepare strategies to redress their grievances. He urged the officials to promote YSR Polambadi programme. He stressed the need to eliminate middlemen to ensure that the farmer secure remunerative price for the produce.
Minister for Roads and Buildigns D Krishna Das advised the farmers to adopt scientific methods. He recalled that the government had created Rs 3,000 crore fund to provide minimum support price to farmers and also another Rs 2,000 crore to aid the farmers in case of crop damage due to natural calamities.
