State Election Commissioner warns of strict action against law-breakers

State Election Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar said that strict action will be taken on those who prevent any candidates from filing the nominations. Speaking at a press conference at his office in Vijayawada, he said that the District Collector has responded and filed a case against the concerned persons who prevented contestants from filing the nominations on Tuesday. In this backdrop, Syed Basha and Imran Basha were arrested by the police on Tuesday night.

The state election commissioner asserted that the state has an efficient police mechanism and serious action would be taken if anyone breaks the law. He directed the police department to ensure that there are no untoward incidents in the districts and also advised the leaders to file nominations without fear as it is the last day to file nominations.

He also said that the notification for the first phase and second phase of panchayat elections would be released on 15th and 17th of this month. Speaking on the high court's order to erase the party colours on the government buildings, Ramesh Kumar said that it would be completed within the stipulated time mentioned by High Court.
